I've come to realize that I do enjoy yard work - I hated my parent's yard work, but now that it's my yard I really enjoy it. Winter is always a heartbreak as you watch your well groomed masterpiece become a haggard mess and there's no sign of the hard work or the beauty. In Spring as the snow melts and the rain subsides you begin to get a sense of your starting point and you formulate your plan for greatness this new year. Right now we are in the throws of trying to figure out what bulbs we are adding where, what trees and bushes are coming, are we doing bark, or, like last year, what are we tearing our and putting in a sitting area.
This winter we lost two trees, one got a mite and the other got my might - none of us liked it and it was in a bad place. This year we are putting in over 100 new bulbs to add color all Spring and Summer, added a really nice purple rhodie, new bedding and plants for our front pots, but also adding bark to all of the beds.
Here's the new front yard with new plants, bark, and last year's addition of the bench and brick patio. This much has taken hours and hours, and yet we're not done. Lots of changes to the back as well - a future post once the first round of bulbs come in. The grass is thickening up and getting green again. It's also no secret I really quite enjoy fertilizing the yard, it allows me to spend time in mowing the yard with the John Deere which I also quite enjoy.
Looking forward to enjoying the yard this year, playing games, having graduation and youth group parties, birthday parties, having fires in the fire bowl, and more.
