Monday at the ridiculous hour of 3:45 I get into a cab to begin the traveling season for work for the year. First trip is to Huntington, WV for some finance meetings and a performance review. This trip will be a fast in-out trip with the flight arriving Monday afternoon, meetings Tuesday and Wednesday, and fly home Wednesday.
May will bring two trips; Grand Forks, ND and San Jose Costa Rica. This will be my second trip to GFK for process improvement meetings (annual event) and will be a nice visit to friends I made last year and prepare a training plan for a new hire financial analyst for the site. I will miss hockey season again this year, which is too bad because the UND team is quite good and their arena "the Ralph" is really quite nice as well. Hotel has a family water park and a pub that has pool tables - last year we all stayed up way too late playing pool. Last year was also cool for having the chance to see a buddy of mine from Redmond who is attending school at UND. The Costa Rica trip is a bit crazy in that I start from Pasco and fly to Seattle and meet the rest of the Seattle team and we all fly together. 3-days of meetings, then fly back but not to home… I’m meeting Lucy and some friends in Spokane for a show and dinner date.
Other trips this Summer/Fall may include seeing an shipping center and learning how they manage finances in their org versus our org. My boss went last year to a Phoenix DC and said it was a great training/experience. Will likely end up in Seattle for budget prep again a few times - those are good meetings as well.
There’s also some personal travel that I am looking forward to… I may also be a chance to go on a road trip with a buddy from NY that I met in the Navy and have stayed in touch with over the years. Really looking
Business travel isn't so bad, but being away from the family is the bad part. Eating out all the time not sleeping in your own bed gets old after awhile, but I always learn lots and I like the people I get to work with whether it be Seattle, WA or Costa Rica. Maybe one I will get to our sites in Ireland or India?
